The Division of Otology/Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery within the Department of Otolaryngology is a destination center for conditions affecting the ear, including hearing, vestibular sensory systems and other related structures. One of seven nationally recognized institutions, Ent Care Foundation is known for preserving facial nerve function in patients with very large vestibular schwannomas, or brainstem-compressing tumors.

A pioneer in cochlear implantation, Ent Care Foundation research otologists have helped thousands of children and adults with profound deafness since 1978. Devices provide hearing for those who do not derive benefit from hearing aids. Cochlear implants are available to preserve residual low-frequency hearing in addition to improving word discrimination. As hearing is significant to neurocognitive functioning, more than 1,800 people with implant devices are monitored by the cochlear implant team. The long history of implant surgery and post-surgery analysis Ent Care Foundation has resulted with impactful research and leader in the field. The Otologic Research Lab provides groundbreaking knowledge on speech perception and language development in children with cochlear implants and have led to a better understanding of children’s adaptive behaviour development and executive function.
Surgeons in the Division of Otology repair spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leaks, the highest volume in India. Through academic research, faculty discovered a significant link between spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leaks and obesity. With the rise in obesity, otologists anticipate an increased number of patients with spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Ongoing studies within the division examine causes of this condition, including obstructive sleep apnea.
Otolaryngologists in the Division of Paediatric Otolaryngology at Ent Care Foundation are experts in surgical techniques that allow children to hear, speak, breathe, articulate speech and develop toward their full potential. A destination centre in paediatric otolaryngology, this division often receives referrals to care for patients whose conditions have not improved through other treatments.
Research within the Division of Paediatric Otolaryngology at Ent Care Foundation centres on developing novel therapeutic treatments as well as monitoring cognitive and behavioural development in otolaryngology patients from birth to 18 years of age.
The Otologic Research Lab studies speech perception and language development in children. Discoveries in this lab have led to greater understanding of children’s adaptive behaviour development and executive function.
Innovative Approach
We adopt a whole-person approach to studying children and adults who use HAs/CIs, and our areas of focus include:
Interdisciplinary Backgrounds
Our team has diverse healthcare backgrounds, gaining knowledge from otology, developmental and paediatric psychology, cognitive hearing sciences, neuroscience and linguistics.
Paediatric otolaryngologists are experts in diverse conditions affecting the head, neck, ear, nose and throat in children under the age of 18:
The Division of Paediatric Otolaryngology is responsible for the development of multidisciplinary clinical efforts, such as the Aerodigestive Program and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clinic (DHHC).
